New and Improved Blog!

Welcome to the new and improved blog for our class! Due to "disappearing" pictures and other technical difficulties, we have a new blog as of November 12, 2010. We will begin with our classroom news as of this date, and hopefully move forward with this new format for the blog ... and keep your fingers crossed that our pictures do not disappear again! Liam and his family visited the Boston Children's Museum over vacation. Here he is in front of the giant Hood milk bottle with his siblings. Did you know that the Hood Milk Bottle has been located on this spot since April 20, 1977 ? When Hood shipped the bottle by ferry to Boston on a voyage it called the "Great Bottle Sail." The structure is 40 feet (12 m) tall, 18 feet (5.5 m) in diameter and weighs 15,000 pounds. If it were a real milk bottle, it would hold 58,620 gallons (221,900 L) of milk (information compliments of Wikipedia) . Wow!

Multiplication Rocks !

Unit 4 in math builds upon the concept of arrays and area from Unit 3. Multiplication and division are presented as reciprocal functions which expands the children's ability to manipulate numbers and strengthens problem solving abilities. Before December Break the children will be bringing home a packet of several resources to help them study multiplication and division facts at home. In this packet will be the lyrics to the multiplication songs which are on our class website. Songs are a great way to make learning math facts fun while the catchy tunes help increase the retention of concepts. Check out "Scooby Twos" and other multiplication songs and you will soon be humming along!
